Yodiz has introduced a nifty new feature, which allows you to convert Item Types after they are created.

This feature is available for all Item types, namely; Task, Issue, User Story and Epic.

How to access this feature?

This feature is accessible only at modal view. Click on Item ID and its modal view will open.

 Click on the highlighted Change Item Type icon.

Change-Item-Type

Select the target item type you want to convert and click on Save. You will be shown a warning message regarding impacts of conversion. These impacts are explained for each scenario in detail below.

Impacts of converting Item Types

There are variable impacts of converting Item types depending on what item you are converting to and from. Concurrently, they also have some common impacts, that are mentioned in Important Points at the bottom of this help page.

Issue Conversion to Other Items

Issue can be converted to User Story, Epic or Task:

1. From Issue to User Story

Issue conversion to User Story will have following impacts:
  • Effort log will be deleted
  • Steps to Reproduce will be removed

2. From Issue to Task

Converting Issue into Task will have following impacts:

  • Effort log will be deleted
  • Steps to Reproduce will be removed
  • Components will also be removed.

3. From Issue to Epic

Converting Issue into Epic will have following impacts:

  • Effort log will be deleted
  • Associated Sprint, Release and User Story will be dissociated
  • Steps to Reproduce will be removed
  • Components will also be removed.

User Story Conversion to Other Items

User Story can be converted to Issue, Task or Epic. Following are the impacts of converting User Story to other Items.

  • Associated Tasks and US Estimates will be deleted
  • Associated Issues and Epics will be dissociated
  • Components are transferred as it is (when converting to Issue)

Task Conversion to Other Items

Task can be converted to Issue, User Story or Epic. Following are the impacts of Item Conversion:

  • Effort log will be deleted
  • User Story will be dissociated (except for Issue)

Epic conversion to other Items

Epic can be converted to Issue, Task or User Story. Following are the impacts of converting Epic to other Items:

  • Estimates will be deleted
  • Associated User Stories will be dissociated

Important Points

You need to take note of few more common actions along with all other highlighted impacts given above:

  • Global Epic Item type can not be changed as they exist on company level.
  • Original Item history for all Items will be transferred to the new Item type and the original Item itself will be deleted.
  • Timeline, Commit Log and Custom fields are reset in every case.
  • All existing Dependencies are removed as well.
  • Default Status of same Status Set Category will be applied in each case.
  • Tags, Due Dates, Details, Attachments, Comments and associated TestRail test cases are transferred seamlessly to converted Item.
  • Followers and Other Responsibles are also moved if those fields exist in converted Item.
  • If you click on Cancel, the changes will not take place and Item Popup will close.
  • After confirming Warning Message, you can still reverse the Item Conversion process in intermediate stage. Clicking on Undo hyperlink will direct you back to original Item’s popup view.
  • Item Conversion is an exclusive Agile + Issue Tracker package feature and is not available in Issue Tracker package.
